Beyond the mountains another Claymore appears, Galatea. Ermita and Galatea wait and observe from afar the battle with the male Awakened Being.

While the group ponders the existance of male Awakened Beings, Deneve is attacked, falls off the cliff with her arm cut from her body. Helen rushes in next and proves to be too slow, but Clare jumps infront to take the attack. Finally angered, Helen unleashes her power and cuts off the Awakened Being’s limbs by stretching her arms. However, the arms grow back to their original form. Deneve appears, her decapitated arms starting to regenerate from scratch at a fast pace. Miria is shocked by how much power the two display.

As they fight, Miria explains to the group about the existance of male Awakened Beings; Ermita explains to Galatea in return. Apparently, in the early times of the organization, there were male and female warriors. The male warriors however, surpass their limits too quickly; they couldn’t control the need to surpass their limits. As a result, the organization stopped making male warriors to minimize the number of Awakened Beings.

Miria is begins to be wary of the fact her group cannot possibly defeat the male Awakened Being. Galatea and Ermita continue to observe but from a distance they could not be sensed. The Awakened Being attacks again and delivers fatal blows to Deneve, Helen, and Clare.

Back in town, Raki waits for Clare. As the innkeeper delivers his meal, he learns that many Claymores have went into the mountains and none ever came back. Raki begins to worry.

With incredible speed, Miria sets her comrades aside and examines their wounds. Deneve and Helen have a 50-50 chance of surviving while Clare seem to be okay. Now that the three were on the sidelines, Miria starts her attack. Her power, which gives her the ability to be fast almost like creating a mirage, is starting to switch the tables. Clare, on the other hand thinks otherwise. She believes that Miria’s power is exhausting her mentally and physically and that she has gone over her limit of unleashing her speed. This proves to be true as she is suddenly pinned down.

Helen cries as she cannot do anything and feels that this is true despair. Clare disagrees and believes this is nothing compared to what she has gone through. She walks slowly towards the male Awakened Being. She reduces her own Yoki and analyzes the Yoki around her. By doing this, she can predict the enemy’s attacks. Miria comes to the conclusion that Clare worked on this particular skill just to fight Awakened Beings.

Galatea informs Ermita that the one who holds the upperhand has changed.

Clare manages to cut off several limbs from the enemy but fails to cut his head. Miria, though still injured, stands up and decides to team up with Clare. Together, they bring down the male Awakened Being without breaking a sweat.

So male Claymores aren’t all that impossible. In the beginning of the series, Clare looked like she was one of the strongest. After the meeting with Deneve, Helen, and Miria, Clare appeared to be weakest (which she apparently was). But it looked forced by the animators when compared to her past missions. I’m glad to know that she has some raw potential though.
