Summer 08: My List (Recent Anime List) July 27, 2008

Summer 08 season’s recent anime line-up doesn’t exactly stand out. However, there are the little jewels among the pile. Just a list of some series that I’m currently watching. Not many this season compared to Spring 08. Info undercut.

Not by me specifically, just otakus and maybe japanophiles in general.

Latest things that seem to be around lately:

1. Vocaloid

Even I want in on the boat. I’ve seen videos online and it looks fun to try. Not only that but the characters are funny. If you see a fanart containing a girl with long blue hair these days, its probably Miku.

2. What ’bout my star?

This one’s self explanitory. One of the most catchy tunes to date. Otakus (mostly those who’ve watched Macross FRONTIER) seem to be singing or listening to this lately. Can’t blame them. So am I.

” WHAT ‘BOUT MY STAR?~~~~~”

Hmmm, what else is taking over the net out there?

Playstation 2: Guilty Pleasure or Guilt of Murder July 25, 2008

Well, indirectly that is. Sort of.

Once again browsing the net when I found a rather interesting article. We all know about PS2 and some of us have wondered how the heck did they come up with this little gem to give us multitudes of fun right in our home. One thing that makes up said little gem is a metal called coltan. Coltan, when refined turns into tantalum and is used in the manufacturing of electronic devices.

Now, this coltan is extensively found in Democratic Republic of Congo. With the ore in high demand, especially for the PS2 (I mean come on, they sold millions of these), the military in charge of the area and even western companies have forced prisoners-of-war and even children to go to mines and gather the much needed ore.

Yes you heard right. Children sent down in mines.

“”Kids in Congo were being sent down mines to die so that kids in Europe and America could kill imaginary aliens in their living rooms,” said Ex-British Parliament Member Oona King.”

While SONY denies using coltan from the Congo for their more recent PS2 units and other products of the Playstation lineup, the ore is usually traded and passed around many times so the origin of the ore is quite hard to determine. Not that a lot of companies would care to find out.

Now ain’t that somethin’? People who own a PS2, don’t you just feel goosebumps coming along? Someone might have died just so you can have your box of fun. Well I sure did. I swear, I’ll never look at a PS2 the same ever again. Thank you SONY and other companies, for being so incredibly ignorant.

FUNIMATION Brings Baccano! to the West July 23, 2008

Yeah, so I just went around the net today and found out that FUNIMATION acquired Baccano!. I’m actually quite surprised it wasn’t licensed mid-showing. But of course, quite glad it wasn’t XD. Anyways, the company has the English site up now and they’ve put up the 1st episode of Baccano! online, except its subbed (aka Japanese audio, English subtitles) and thus we have no clue as to how they’re going to do the dubbing of this show. However, seeing as this is FUNIMATION, which did a superb job on Fullmetal Alchemist, I’m not too worried. Definately getting this series when it comes out in DVD.

By the way, the password to watch the show is Flying Pussyfoot.

SUMMER 08~ WHY HELLO DER July 15, 2008

Filed under: Real Life — ebulliencejj @ 4:44 am

Months pass, exams finished, anime series watched, books read, life spent.

Life after Provincials is surprisingly calm and easy going. After working to the bone trying to please both myself and parents with … asian-pass grades in Science and Math, I’m about as spent as can be. This year wasn’t exactly the easiest. Once again, I find myself wondering, why the heck did I work so hard. Oh yes, to get a good job and get loads and loads of money.

SCHOOL DRAMA. YOU. KNOW. IT. Well when I say things haven’t been easy, they really have been quite hard on those who know what real life is like. There’s the break ups and the make ups, and the oh-god-you-did-not-just-confess-to-my-boyfriend/your best-friend. There has been back-stabbing, misunderstandings, tears, farewells etc. etc. Definitely, real life drama right there. Most of all, I’d have to give a give hug out there, to someone who has been a good friend for the past years; someone close yet distant. You’ve suffered a lot and my heart and prayers goes out to you, your family, and grandparents. I believe that in time, your pain will be rewarded. As I say this to you, I also congratulate you on your big achievement. You know who you are. Continue to ROCK ON and spike those v-balls girl. Farewell as well to uber smart person who continues to kickass in court and in life. Good luck in IB. I’m sure you’ll find a hot, smart dude in no time.

Anime~tralalala~ I’ve finished tons, and still watching loads. I must say this though: Persona-trinity soul- owns. The build-up in this series is so intense, my eyes are almost damaged from replaying scenes. Not much to say in this category. I’ve neglected it due to school and life.

Writing and Drawing why hello darlings. After doing calculations and figuring out ACs and DCs, I’m finally able to regroup my thoughts and try to evolve my art. Trying to figure out styles is exhausting. I need lessons on human anatomy. NOW.

OH CANADA – Dear Canada, thank you for the $100 that you gave me this summer (I certainly needed it) but I’m still torn between thank you or leaving you for the trying to save the earth by implementing carbon tax. Oh, dearest money, Goodbye. T’was short, the amount of time I’ve known thee.

TEETH -  got minor surgery done to remove my lower wisdom teeth… does that mean I’m 50% wisdomless?
